6 foundation hacks that you should know!
Foundation is something that you just cannot do without in makeup! The choices you have is crazy – you can go for sheer, medium or full coverage; you can also choose whether you want a matte, satin or dewy finish. What I like is one foundation that can multitask 😉 Yeah I am stingy like that 😛 So here’s my five tested foundation hacks that will change your makeup routine for ever!
1. Prep the skin
This is the most essential step in your makeup routine. Whatever look you do, take time to scrub your face to clean it, apply some ice cubes to close pores and then moisturize the skin. Also use a lip balm to prep the lips. Do this 10 minutes before you start applying makeup.
2. Use a primer
I cannot stress enough on the importance using a primer. A primer essentially tackles your skin issues such pores, oilyness, dryness, dullness etc. Choose one that suits your skin type and is improves its texture. Make sure that both the primer and foundation are of the same bese, be it silicone or water or serum.
3. Make your foundation look dewy
If you own a full coverage, matte foundation but want a sheer dewy look, just add one drop of baby oil to your foundation and apply it. You can also add a drop of any liquid illuminator if radiant look is what you dig.
4. Make your foundation last all day long
If you have oily skin such as myself, you are familiar with the problem of vanished foundation! To make your foundation stay all day long and fresh, you must follow these steps:
a. Use a mattifying primer.
a. Once you have applied a primer, spray some setting spray first and then put foundation. This will make sure that it does not budge from its place.
b. After the foundation, apply a translucent powder (not compact) with a powder puff and press it into the skin. This will lock it in place.
5. Make a sheer foundation full coverage
If you own a sheer or medium coverage foundation but want full coverage for a party or event, simply use a compact powder or mineral foundation powder to set it. This will give additional coverage and will not look cakey. If you have dry skin, you can spray some setting spray over it for more dewy look. Avoid using setting spray at the end if you have oily skin.
6. Choose a lighter shade
Now this one might seem contrary to popular belief. Foundations usually oxidize on oily skin and makes you look darker. To avoid this, I use a shade lighter than my skin tone which does look cakey at the beginning but by the time I am done completing the entire makeup, it looks natural. So next time you go foundation shopping, apply a lighter foundation on half of your face and shade similar to your skin tone on the other half to see which ones fares better.
